The Rev. Katharine Howe Toledano
Rev. Toledano graduated magna cum laude from Wellesley College where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. During the college years, Katharine thought a lot about two career choices: architecture or the ministry. She dreamed about attending divinity school at Yale. Ultimately, she chose architecture and attended Columbia University where she received a Master of Architecture. For the next 20 years, Katharine practiced architecture and design in several states. Eventually living in Connecticut, Katharine got to realize her dream of attending Yale Divinity School. After two years at Yale, Katharine and her family moved to Chattanooga, and Katharine completed her last year through long-distance learning and trips between Chattanooga and New Haven. She received her Master of Divinity degree in 2014 and was ordained by the United Church of Christ in 2016.
After completing divinity school, Katharine joined the Hospital Chaplaincy program at Erlanger Health System and spent her first four years there as chaplain in the Oncology Services Group of the hospital. During those years, Katharine was involved in all aspects of emotional and spiritual care for cancer patients and worked closely with lifelong Pilgrim, Dr. John McCravey. She then added to her experience at Erlanger by serving for two years as chaplain for the Women's, Children's, and Neuro-Science Institute. During her time at the hospital, Katharine also coordinated a design competition for a new chapel and oversaw construction of that chapel.
Rev. Toledano has worshipped with Pilgrims since 2013 and served as a Student Pastor with the late Rev. Dr. David Brown. Rev. Toledano began serving as our designated Pastor October 1, 2020.
