Pilgrim Congregational Church invites you to be part of an Advent Study on the book – “The First Christmas” – What the Gospels really teach about Jesus’ birth, by Marcus Borg & John Dominic Crossman, Harper One 2012. We meet Wednesday nights at 7pm November 29 – December 20, 2023. The class will be led by Rev. Gregg Carlson and there is no charge to participate.

Class participants are encouraged but not required to purchase the book which is available new and used through most online book sellers like Amazon. It is also available in electronic version through Amazon (Amazon book link here) and Apple books.

Before the first class you are asked to Matthew 1:18-25 Matthew 2:1-23, Luke chapters 1 & 2, and Chapter 1 of the book “The First Christmas”.

Tonight’s class: Why do we have two Birth Stories of Jesus? Why not one? Why not one in each Gospel and in Paul’s writings? Homework assignment: Read chapters 2 & 3 before next class.
